A well-preserved skeleton of a 15-crore-year-old dinosaur has been put up for sale.
An unusually well-preserved skeleton of a dinosaur known as 'Barry' has been put up for auction in Paris, according to Reuters. The skeleton of a Camptosaurus known as Berry, which dates back to the late Jurassic period, about 150 million years ago, will be auctioned in Paris next month.
The dinosaur was discovered in the US state of Wyoming in the 1990s, and was initially recovered ten years later in 2000 by paleontologist Barry James, giving it its name. Last year an Italian laboratory acquired Bari and carried out further restoration work on the structure, which is 2.10 meters (6.9 ft) high and 5 meters (16.4 ft) long. Its skull is 90 percent complete and the rest of the dinosaur (structure) is 80 percent complete.
While dinosaur structures have been sold before, the auction house says that dinosaur specimens are rare on the art market, with no more than two sold worldwide a year. Barry's sale is expected to fetch up to 1.2 million euros ($1.28 million).
